Nightguards for Bruxism & TMJ Therapy

Man in dental chair holding cheekAre any of the following symptoms familiar to you?

  • Chronic sore jaw
  • Constant headaches/earaches
  • Damaged/worn down teeth
  • Difficulty with chewing properly

These are all indications of bruxism, a very common “bad habit” that’s estimated to affect at least one-third of our country’s population. Also known as teeth grinding, bruxism is often found in patients who experience high levels of daily stress, and it’s also likely to happen at night when people are asleep and unaware of the damage being done to their smile and oral health. Untreated cases of bruxism may even develop into the more debilitating TMJ disorder over time, which can cause severe pain in the head, neck, and jaw. Thankfully, Dr. Weinman can effectively treat both of these conditions with the help of a personalized nightguard. Please contact our Westfield, NJ office today if you have any questions for our team, or if you’re ready to schedule a consultation.

Custom Oral Appliance Therapy

Hand holding TMJ oral applianceAfter thoroughly evaluating your facial muscles, teeth, and oral tissues to determine the severity of your condition, Dr. Weinman will design a custom-made oral appliance (also known as a nightguard) that is designed to protect the patient’s smile from harm as they sleep. By minimizing damaging contact between teeth, you’re able to rest easy and wake up feeling ready for the day ahead instead of constantly worrying about chronic oral pain. Other techniques that can be used to alleviate bruxism/TMJ symptoms include massage, focused stretches and relaxation techniques, proper hydration, a change in diet, the application of ice/heat, or more sleep.
